Hi I am Kym Renee Keyes 48 yrs old, President and CEO of Khemo Buddy’s. As a 3 year Breast Cancer Survivor, Khemo Buddy’s was conceived out if my own desire for a Buddy while going through Chemotherapy treatment. During my very harsh 22 month treatment plan, I often found myself afraid and alone. I was single, had 2 adult children, one with a demanding career and the other a sophomore football player in college. I wasn’t able to tell anyone what I needed because I wasn’t sure myself. As this life altering event has no forewarning, it also had a very individualized treatment effect.

As I sat in the treatment room, unable to go anywhere but to the restroom with an I.V. pole attached, I was often hungry and had no way of getting lunch. I was sensitive to the community blankets they gave out and more importantly I was alone.

As I watched others like me come and go just as I did. There was this one single mother with a 2 and 3 year old in tow. She had no sitter and she would bring her kids with her, she had snacks but not enough for the 8 hr duration. I watched this lady for 2 months, when one day I ended up leaving after her, which was a rarity. I watched her walk while in the sun, with her two kids to the bus stop. After all she had just gone through, she was walking. My son and I gave her a ride home. She didn’t live close.
